Former University of Alabama president Joab Thomas will be the keynote speaker for UA’s continuing education seminar, “Blast Off Into the New Millennium,” Friday, Jan. 14, at the Bryant Conference Center.
Adults with Type II diabetes who need to lose weight are invited to join a support group that is meeting Friday, Jan. 14, from noon-1 p.m. at the Capstone Medical Center carrel room on The University of Alabama campus.
Guido Calabresi, judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, will present the Hugo L. Black Lecture at The University of Alabama School of Law on Thursday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. in the Bedsole Moot Courtroom at the school.
In 2000 Alabama’s economy is expected to grow by 3.1 percent and to add about 18,000 new jobs. Most job growth will be in retailing, services, and construction. Unemployment should average 4.7 percent, slightly higher than the predicted U.S. rate of 4.4 percent. Income growth in the state will be modest.
