James T. Stephens, chairman of EBSCO Industries Inc., will give the commencement address at The University of Alabama’s spring commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 12 at Coleman Coliseum on the UA campus.

UA Receives $100,000 Grant from Bernard Osher Foundation

The Bernard Osher Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to The University of Alabama’s College of Continuing Studies, to support the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UA – a program targeted for continuing the education of mature students.

UA Announces Winners of Student-Funded SGA Spirit Scholarships

Winners of scholarships funded by The University of Alabama’s SGA S.P.I.R.I.T. campaign were announced today during a celebration event at Gorgas Library. Six UA students, all first-generation college students, were selected to receive the awards funded by their fellow students. The SGA S.P.I.R.I.T. campaign asked students to donate $5 each to UA for “first-in-family” scholarships.

UA’s Phi Delta Theta Fraternity to Host ALS Fund-Raiser

The Alabama Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at The University of Alabama will be hosting the Walk to D’Feet ALS to benefit the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association, the fraternity’s national philanthropy, on Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. – noon on the Quad.

UA Plank Center to Award $25,000 in Leadership Grants in Public Relations

The Plank Center for Public Relations Studies at The University of Alabama will again award up to $25,000 in competitive grants to scholars and professionals to study leadership in public relations. The grants of $2,500 to $10,000 will support research that advances knowledge of leadership in the profession and helps develop excellence in leadership.

UA Physicists Play Key Role in Fermilab Experiment Resolving Long-Standing Neutrino Question

Scientists of the MiniBooNE experiment at the Department of Energy’s Fermilab today announced their first findings. The MiniBooNE results resolve questions raised by observations of an experiment at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the 1990s that appeared to contradict findings of other neutrino experiments worldwide.

Aaron Vold Named Director of Development for UA’s College of Arts and Sciences

Aaron Vold has been appointed director of development for The University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Sciences. In this role, Vold will lead the College’s fund-raising efforts for the “Our Students. Our Future.” campaign and cultivate, solicit and steward gifts to the College. He held a similar position at UA’s Capstone College of Nursing, where he served as director of advancement.
