UA Center Produces Documentary on Bankhead Family

For three generations, one family from north Alabama – the Bankheads — became fixtures on the American landscape. Their improbable run to national prominence is traced in The University of Alabama’s Center for Public Television’s documentary “The Bankheads.” “The Bankheads” will air statewide on Alabama Public Television at 8 p.m. Thursday Oct. 13, and 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16.

UA’s Huxford Symphony Orchestra to Perform Oct. 13

The University of Alabama School of Music’s Huxford Symphony Orchestra will perform in its second concert of the 2016-2017 season Thursday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Moody Music Building Concert Hall.

UA Chess Club Contributes to Food Drive

The University of Alabama Chess Club is doing its part to checkmate hunger in West Alabama. The club will host a chess tournament t from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 8, in the Ferguson Center. Participants will contribute three cans as a tournament entry fee for the Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger food drive.

Broadway Producer to Present UA Lecture on Musicals

Noted theatrical producer Jack Viertel, who has shepherded numerous shows to Broadway including “The Piano Lesson,” “Angels in America,” “City of Angels” and “M. Butterfly,” will speak about “The Secret Life of the American Musical” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the Marian Gallaway Theatre on The University of Alabama campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
