The State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame will induct seven individuals and honor four corporations/institutions during a Feb. 24 ceremony at the Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa in Birmingham.

The University of Alabama African-American Graduate Student Association’s 2006-2007 Business Plan Competition for African-American Students has named the top seven finalists who will present their plans to a panel of judges on Friday, Feb. 23 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in 111 AIME Building.
A total of 4,697 students enrolled during the fall 2006 semester at The University of Alabama made the Dean’s List with academic records of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or above, or the President’s List with academic records of 4.0.
The University of Alabama’s vision of recruiting the “best and brightest” students is clearly becoming a reality as UA ranks 11th in the nation among public universities in the enrollment of National Merit Scholars for 2006-2007, and 29th among all universities. The rankings, based on the National Merit Scholarship Corp.’s newly-released 2005-2006 annual report, place UA among the top 8 percent nationally among colleges and universities that enrolled National Merit Scholars.
University of Alabama President Robert E. Witt will speak during a reception honoring UA’s National Merit, National Achievement and National Hispanic Scholars Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 2-3 p.m. at The Zone in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Not many states can boast of a building that stands more than 744 feet tall, but Alabama can. The new RSA Battlehouse Tower in Mobile, at 745 feet, is the tallest building in the state and one of the tallest in the nation.
