Dr. Pauline Johnson, associate professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering at The University of Alabama, was recently selected to attend the Women’s International Research Engineering Summit, June 2-4, in Barcelona, Spain.
Dr. Ramana G. Reddy, ACIPCO Professor of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at The University of Alabama, was recently named the recipient of two awards from The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society for his outstanding accomplishments.
University of Alabama senior Daniel Cherry, a telecommunication and film and political science major, placed seventh in the radio news category in the annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program for two of his pieces produced for Alabama Public Radio.
Dr. Glenda Williams, associate professor of telecommunication and film in the UA College of Communication and Information Sciences, was elected president of the Broadcast Education Association.
Noel Jordan, a student at The University of Alabama from Mt. Brook, has received the Marshall Award for being selected UA’s top Army ROTC cadet for this academic year. As part of the honor, Jordan is participating in the George C. Marshall ROTC Awards Seminar April 15-17 in Lexington, Va.
Four University of Alabama students who have a passion for books have been named winners in the UA Libraries’ 3rd annual Book Collecting Contest. On Wednesday, April 15, at 2:30 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library there will be an event to recognize contest winners, after which Dr. Louis Pitschmann, dean of University Libraries, will speak on book collecting and book collections. A reception will follow.
The University of Alabama Society of Automotive Engineers collegiate chapter is the recipient of the 2009 Honeywell Outstanding Branch Award. The chapter will be presented with a plaque and $600 at the SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit, Mich., April 20-23. This is the second consecutive year UA’s SAE has received this award.
The University of Alabama honored its top students of 2008-2009 for their academic achievement and leadership Friday, April 10, during the Tappings and Awards Ceremony, the highlight of UA’s annual Honors Week.
The University of Alabama College of Engineering honored three alumni of the College by inducting them into its class of 2009 Distinguished Engineering Fellows. Robert M. Lightfoot Jr., John S. Richardson and Dr. Angela Summers received the top honor the College presents at a ceremony on April 4 at NorthRiver Yacht Club.
The University of Alabama Students in Free Enterprise team was named the 2009 Regional Champion at the recent SIFE USA Regional Competition in Atlanta. The event was one of 16 such competitions held across the United States in March and April.
