U.S. News Ranks UA Law School 11th Among Public Law Schools, 32nd Overall; UA School of Social Work Ranked 28th Among Publics, 42nd Overall

The University of Alabama School of Law is ranked 11th among public law schools and 32nd among all law schools in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2009 edition of its annual “Best Graduate Schools” publication. The publication also ranks the UA School of Social Work 28th among social work programs at public universities and 42nd when both public and private institutions are included.

UA Panhellenic Association Gains Two New Sororities

The University of Alabama Panhellenic Association is welcoming two sororities to campus. Alpha Phi Sorority will colonize this fall and Delta Gamma Sorority will colonize in fall 2010.

University of Alabama Hosts Gridiron Bash™ this Spring: Alan Jackson to Perform at Bryant-Denny Stadium

The University of Alabama and New York City-based MSL Sports and Entertainment today announced that the University will host Gridiron Bash™ The Ultimate Fan Competition™ the day before the annual A-Day Game. The event – the first of its kind at Bryant-Denny Stadium – will take place April 11 and include a live performance by Grammy award-winning country singer-song writer Alan Jackson, as well as a giant pep rally introducing the team, appearances by coaches, video highlights, and other festive fan activities.

UA Ranks Among Best in Enrollment of National Merit Scholars

In keeping with its strong record of attracting some of the nation’s most outstanding students, The University of Alabama ranks 12th among public universities in the enrollment of National Merit Scholars for 2007-2008 and 30th among all universities.

UA Engineering Receives Grant to Enhance Wireless Telemedicine

Dr. Yang Xiao, assistant professor of computer science at The University of Alabama, and Dr. Fei Hu, of Rochester Institute of Technology, were recently awarded a $400,000 grant from the National Science Foundation’s Cyber Trust Program to research advancements in wireless telemedicine.

A total of 4,949 students enrolled during the fall 2007 semester at The University of Alabama made the Dean’s List with academic records of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale), or the President’s List with academic records of 4.0 (all As).

UA Joins OSHA, White-Spunner Construction to Create Safe Work Environment

The U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration has formed a partnership with The University of Alabama Safe State Consultation Program, White-Spunner Construction Inc., and the Alabama chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America in an effort to ensure the highest level of employee safety and health during the construction of White-Spunner’s new corporate offices in Mobile.
