UA Holds Development Symposium for Women in STEM Areas

The University of Alabama’s Women in STEM initiative will host Building an Impact, its fourth annual symposium, on Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23, on campus. Building an Impact is designed to provide an opportunity for researchers, academics and industry members from the Southeast to learn and share how to build leadership and career development skills for college women in STEM and to discuss ways to further increase the number of women in STEM initiatives.

PNC Foundation Supports UA Students, Early Childhood Education

The PNC Foundation has awarded grants totaling $45,000 to The University of Alabama to support both early childhood education in the state and UA students.

UA Honors College to Expand Education Outreach Program

The University of Alabama Honors College is expanding its Education Outreach program beginning in 2016. Some 265 Honors College students participate in three mentoring initiatives: a literacy program for elementary students; a character development program for middle school students; and a science, technology, engineering, arts and math program for pre-kindergarten children.

The Bernard Osher Foundation Provides Additional $1 Million to UA for Lifelong Learners

The University of Alabama has received a $1 million grant from The Bernard Osher Foundation to support and endow continuing education opportunities for mature students.

Winter 2015 Graduates Announced at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will award some 2,200 degrees during winter commencement Saturday, Dec 12, on campus. With this graduating class, UA will have awarded more than 249,000 degrees since its founding in 1831 as the state’s first public university. The University of Alabama has earned reaffirmation of its accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

UA’s Public Speaking Program Receives National Recognition

The National Communication Association named The University of Alabama public speaking program as one of the 2015 Programs of Distinction. The award, given by the organization’s basic course division, honored the College of Communication and Information Sciences’ program for its outstanding efforts to cultivate student excellence in oral communication.

SEC Enhances Security for Football Championship Weekend

Fans attending the 2015 SEC Football Championship Game in Atlanta Dec. 5 will be asked to enter with clear bags and should be prepared to arrive early and to see enhanced law enforcement presence in and around the Georgia Dome, the conference office announced.
