Population Grew in Most Alabama Metro Areas in 2015
Alabama’s metro area population continued to grow, increasing by 14,754 people, or 0.4 percent, from July 1, 2014 to July 1, 2015, according to the population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.

UA Students at Crimson White, Alice Receive SPJ Regional Awards
Two periodicals produced entirely by students at The University of Alabama have garnered numerous awards in the annual Society of Professional Journalists Region 3 Mark of Excellence contest. The Crimson White newspaper and Alice magazine won first place in six categories and received six finalist awards in the competition. The contest honors the best in collegiate student journalism based on such criteria as enterprise, ingenuity, respect for audience and adherence to high journalistic standards, including the SPJ code of ethics.
Anthropologist to Present UA Lecture on the Muslim Headscarf
Dr. Mayanthi Fernando, an anthropologist and ethnographer from the University of California at Santa Cruz, will present “Storytelling Against the Grain: Muslim Lives, French Myths, and the Power of Ethnography” Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m. in room 205 of Gorgas Library on The University of Alabama campus.

Bicycles engineered by the Rock the Bike company in Oakland, California, will power all the concert stage, lighting and sound for the Yellowhammer Festival on Sunday, April 3. The event is a music and arts festival that focuses on health and environmental sustainability. The festival is hosted by The University of Alabama’s Creative Campus, the Student Government Association and University Programs.
