UA Hosts Letters About Literature Award Ceremony for Alabama Winners

The Alabama winners of the 23rd Letters About Literature competition have been selected and will be announced at a ceremony held in their honor at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at The University of Alabama’s Gorgas Library, room 205.

Letters About Literature is a national reading and writing contest for students in grades 4-12, according to read.gov. Students are asked to read a book, poem or speech and write a letter to the author about how the work impacted their lives. The letters are divided into three levels and are judged by each state affiliate for the Center of the Book.

National Science Foundation Selects UA Graduates for Competitive Fellowships

Two graduating seniors at The University of Alabama have accepted admittance to the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Sarah McFann from Arlington, Tennessee, and Samantha Tilson from Littleton, Colorado, both in chemical and biological engineering, are two of 2,000 NSF Graduate Research Fellows selected from more than 13,000 applicants. The students from UA will receive financial support for graduate studies.
