Statement Concerning Incidents of Aug. 21-22, 2002

Officials are investigating an arson at Delta Sigma Theta sorority house, located at 430 Smith-Woods Circle on The University of Alabama campus. A fire alarm sounded at 4:47 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. UA Police Department and Tuscaloosa Fire Department responded at 4:50 a.m. The fire was quickly extinguished. No one was injured in the fire. Eight women were in the building at the time of the fire. Law enforcement and fire officials are investigating the incident.

UA’s New Research Center to Address Mental Health Needs of Elderly

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has awarded The University of Alabama a $500,000 grant to create a research center focusing on the mental health needs of the nation’s soaring elderly population.
