School of Library and Information Studies and UA Libraries Welcome Maurice Freedman to Campus

The University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies and University Libraries will host Dr. Maurice J. Freedman, president of the American Library Association, on Thursday, April 17 at 4 p.m. for a presentation on the fourth floor of the Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library.

UA-Housed Project R.O.S.E. Receives Environmental Education Program Award

Project R.O.S.E. (Recycled Oil Saves Energy), the volunteer used motor oil recycling program for the state of Alabama, recently received the 2003 Best Environmental Education Program in Alabama award from the Environmental Education Association of Alabama. Project R.O.S.E. is headquartered in the chemical engineering department in The University of Alabama College of Engineering.

Shelby Hall Nears Completion

With 70 research labs, five teaching labs, three theater-style lecture halls, 40 offices for faculty and professional staff, and 80 offices for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, the Shelby Interdisciplinary Science Building will be the largest academic building on the UA campus when it is completed this year and one of the Southeast’s largest science education facilities. Construction of the structure has drawn considerable interest based on its size as well as its beauty.
