Society of Women Engineers Honors Two UA Students

Two University of Alabama students were recently selected for nationally competitive awards by the Society of Women Engineers. Since 2009 seven UA students have been selected for the honor, the most from any university during that time.

UA Professor Named Fellow by Manufacturing Society

Dr. Yuebin Guo, a professor of mechanical engineering at The University of Alabama, was elected a Fellow by the Society for Manufacturing Engineers, or SME, one of two elected Fellows in this year’s class from American universities.

Roff, Alston to Receive Social Work Hall of Fame Honor

Two familiar faces to The University of Alabama School of Social Work will be inducted into the Alabama Social Work Hall of Fame during a Sept. 26 luncheon and ceremony.

UA Alumni-Athlete Award Recipients Honored at Football Game

Three outstanding University of Alabama alumni — Dr.Jeff Laubenthal, L.W. “Red” Noonan and Fred Sington Jr. — received the 2014 Paul W. Bryant Alumni-Athlete Award during a ceremony Saturday, Sept. 6 at Bryant-Denny Stadium on the UA campus. Noonan was honored posthumously.

Dean’s List Students Named for UA Summer 2014 Term

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A total of 404 students enrolled during the 2014 summer semester at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). The UA Dean’s and President’s lists recognizes full-time undergraduate students.

UA’s Spears Named Winner of Public Health Award

Dr. Ellen Spears, assistant professor in New College and the department of American studies at The University of Alabama, has been chosen as the recipient of 2014 Arthur J. Viseltear Prize for Outstanding Contributions in the History of Public Health for her recent book, published in April by the University of North Carolina Press.

John Grisham Wins the 2014 Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction

For his work in “Sycamore Row,” New York Times bestselling author, lawyer and previous Harper Lee Prize winner John Grisham received the 2014 Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction.

UA Social Work Graduate Student Wins SOGIE Award

Sarah Young, doctoral student in The University of Alabama School of Social Work, has been named a winner of the 2014 CSWE Council on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression Scholarship Award.

UA Social Work Graduate Student Wins National Leadership Award

Ning Tang, a doctoral student in The University of Alabama’s School of Social Work, has been named the winner of the 2014 Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work Student Award for Leadership and Services for her efforts to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation between Chinese and American social workers.

New Rankings List UA’s Culverhouse School of Accountancy 8th Nationally

The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse School of Accountancy’s undergraduate and master’s programs are ranked eighth in the nation and the doctoral program 12th.
