UA Alumni-Athlete Award Recipients Honored at Football Game

Two University of Alabama alumni — Jack L. Bailey Jr. and Demeco Ryans— were honored with the 2016 Paul W. Bryant Alumni-Athlete Award during a ceremony Saturday, Sept. 10, at Bryant-Denny Stadium on the UA campus.

UA Education Abroad Department Hosts Study Abroad Fair

On Wednesday, Sept. 14, The University of Alabama Education Abroad department will host its Fall Study Abroad Fair on the Crimson Promenade outside B.B. Comer Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Education Abroad staff, UA faculty and representatives from UA affiliate providers will be on hand to meet with students and help them explore options for study abroad. UA Students Reach Out to Community Before Classes Start

Before hitting the books, heading to lectures or turning on computers, more than 300 University of Alabama students returned to campus early and picked up hammers, paintbrushes, rakes, shovels and even medical equipment – all to help out in Tuscaloosa and the Black Belt. More than 900 students participated and provided more than 7,650 hours of community service in August.

UA’s RISE Center Begins New Playgroup

The RISE Center, housed in the Stallings Center, is so popular that Director Andi Gillen and her staff are unable to serve all the special-needs children whose parents request entry – a waiting list has developed. So, the Center has developed a new program, the RISE and SHINE Playgroup. The group will have many of the activities RISE students experience during the day, only in a shorter time span – an hour and a half twice a month.

UA’s Rural Medical Scholars Program Celebrates 20th Class

The Rural Medical Scholars Program at the College of Community Health Sciences will honor the graduates of its 20th class, as well as alumni of the now two-decade-old program, on Sunday, May 1, at Hotel Capstone on The University of Alabama campus. A reception for program alumni will be at 3 p.m. and will be followed by the 20th Annual Rural Scholars Convocation, where the current classes of the Rural Medical Scholars and Rural Community Health Scholars will be recognized.

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation has named two University of Alabama students — Ciara Malaugh, of Huntsville, and Dana Sweeney, of Kingsland, Georgia, — as Truman Scholars for 2016.
