Multimedia stressed at multicultural reporting workshop at the University of Alabama

The Alabama Scholastic Press Association’s Facebook friends did not have to wait long to find out the director was being interviewed for this story. Director Meredith Cummings posted a status update about it – mid-interview – from the University of Alabama, where ASPA is holding its annual Multicultural Journalism Workshop for high school students. “We’re really pushing multimedia,” said Cummings, who is tweeting about the workshop on Twitter.com, too. The workshop, which ends Sunday, offered classes over the weekend such as “Basic Newspaper Design” and “Feature Writing.” But it also offers “Blogging for Beginners” and “Alternative Forms of News Reporting,” a course on how ordinary people are using the Internet to do journalism…

SummerTide Theatre, the professional summer theater of the University of Alabama, returns for the sixth year to the George C. Meyer Theatre Arts Center in Gulf Shores with “Godspell,” running through July 3. Performances are at 8 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for children 12 and younger.
