‘Projet Mobilivre’-Bookmobile Project to Visit UA Campus

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– Recreation vehicles usually roll onto The University of Alabama campus on Thursdays before home football games, but one Airstream isn’t coming to get an early start on tailgating.

The School of Library and Information Studies will sponsor projet Mobilivre-Bookmobile project, an underground book and magazine exhibition, on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. outside the main, north entrance of Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library.

Now in its fifth year, “projet Mobilivre,” or Bookmobile project, in English, is an annual touring exhibition of independent publications, magazines, and artists’ books traveling in a vintage Airstream trailer across Canada and the United States. A group of coordinators traveling with the exhibition facilitate a series of workshops, artist talks and educational forums.

The projet Mobilivre-Bookmobile project explores the tradition of bookmobiles as traveling libraries that promote the distribution of information. Its traveling collection includes about 300 book works ranging from handmade and one-of-a-kind to photocopied and small press publications.
