TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – U.S. News and World Report has ranked The University of Alabama School of Law among the Top 50 law schools in the nation for the eighth consecutive year.
UA’s School of Law is ranked 43rd in U.S. News’ 2007 edition of its annual “Best Graduate Schools” publication.
“The UA Law School is firmly established among the top 50 schools after eight years on the list. This recognition represents a strong endorsement of our faculty and our programs,” said Ken Randall, dean of the UA School of Law.
The national law school rankings involve reputational assessments by lawyers and judges as well as by law school deans and faculty throughout the United States. The rankings also include statistics in the areas of admissions, bar passage and career services.
The UA Law School’s bar passage rate is 96.7 percent, well above the state average of 81 percent. Some 97.8 percent of graduates are employed within nine months of graduation. The school has become increasingly competitive in recent years, and has an acceptance rate of only 26.4 percent of applicants.
“We are continually evaluating and upgrading our programs to meet the needs of our students. Construction is currently underway on a major addition and renovation to our building and we look forward to opening those facilities this fall,” Randall said.
The $15 million addition and renovation plan includes a 44,000 square foot, two-story addition to the Law Center and renovation of some 42,000 square feet of existing space. The new and renovated facilities will include new classrooms, upgraded space for the Law School’s Clinical program and Career Services Office, larger faculty offices, study rooms, a student lounge, a food service and dining facility, and renovated offices for student organizations.
