TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The National Elder Law Foundation (NELF) has announced that Jo Alison Taylor, director of The University of Alabama Elder Law Clinic, has successfully completed its examination leading to certification.
Taylor is now a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA). She practiced privately in Birmingham before accepting the position of director of Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE) in June 1997. Taylor is a member of the American, Alabama, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa Bar Associations and is a charter member of the Alabama State Bar Elder Law Section.
LCE is a UA Law School Clinical Program, partly funded by a grant from the West Alabama Planning and Development Council under the Older Americans Act. The program provides a broad range of free legal services to those 60 or over who are residents of Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar and Pickens counties. It also provides opportunities for upper level law students to obtain practical experience under the supervision of licensed practitioners.
NELF is the only organization approved by the American Bar Association to offer certification in the area of elder law. The Alabama State Bar also recognizes NELF certification. Certification in elder law, one of the fastest growing fields in the legal profession, will provide a measure of assurance to the public that the attorney has an in-depth working knowledge of legal issues affecting the elderly.
