TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – During Homecoming at The University of Alabama, Zeta Beta Tau fraternity will have a special ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. honoring alumnus Joseph Levin Jr. of Montgomery as their Man of the Year.

Levin graduated from UA in 1964 and from the UA Law School in 1966. He is co-founder of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

From 1971- 2004, he served the SPLC in various capacities, including legal director, chair of the board, and president and CEO. Levin retired as CEO in 2004 and currently serves the SPLC as a member of the board and general counsel.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized as ZBT’s Man of the Year. Much of whatever success I’ve had in life happened because of the people I grew to know and all that we experienced in the old ZBT house adjacent to then Denny Stadium. Sharing those times with my brothers when we were all trying to understand our place in the world made for the most formative years of my life,” Levin said.

In addition, he is accepting the Gottheil Medal on behalf of the Southern Poverty Law Center. This award is given to a person and/or organization that works toward creating a more civil society.
