TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Honors College will host a photography exhibit beginning Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Smith Building, 301 Washington St. in Marion, Alabama.
The exhibit is part of the 57 Miles Initiative and will feature a number of works from “Visions of the Black Belt: A Cultural Survey of the Heart of Alabama,” a coffee table book by author Valerie Pope Burns and photographer Robin McDonald. The book offers a look at the Black Belt’s towns, architecture, citizens, artists and craftspeople.

The works also will be on display as part of the 10th anniversary gala of the Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center. That event will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the center , 209 Claiborn St. in Camden, Alabama. The author, photographer and a number of artists featured within the book will be on hand for a signing. The event also will feature southern cuisine, music from Marengo County musician Toney Nixon and a program to honor the center’s contributors.
