Alabama’s 27th Annual Economic Outlook Conference Set for Jan. 15

The University of Alabama’s 2015 Economic Outlook Conference will be held Jan. 15 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center. It will be the 27th year for the conference hosted by UA’s Center for Business and Economic Research. Speakers include: David Altig, executive vice president and director of research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and Ahmad Ijaz, CBER associate director and director of economic forecasting, who will give economic forecast for 2015 for the U.S. and Alabama; Ira Harvey, executive assistant to UA’s vice president for financial affairs, and Samuel Addy, CBER director and associate dean for research and outreach in the Culverhouse College of Commerce, who will discuss Alabama tax revenue issues. Jo Bonner, vice chancellor for government relations and economic development for the UA System, who will discuss economic development in the state.

Over 75 Rise students attended the party which has been held for over 20 years. The students played in the practice facility with members of the UA gymnastics team as well as coaches and visited with Santa Claus at the event.

Auburn University leading initiative on world hunger

The president of Auburn University is among leaders of more than 50 universities who say they’re working to address hunger around the world. The Opelika-Auburn News reports (http://bit.ly/1u7PlPu ) AU President Jay Gogue is leading a coalition of university leaders during a Presidents United to Solve Hunger meeting on Monday at the United Nations in New York City. The newspaper reports that the University of Alabama, Troy University and Tuskegee University are also participating in the program. Director of strategy and policy for Auburn University’s Hunger Solutions Institute Paula Hunker says that as a land grand university, Auburn’s mission is closely tied to agriculture and addressing world hunger.
