ANNOUNCEMENTS

Colonial Drive from Eighth Street to Bryant Drive will be closed for construction and utility installation Dec. 15, 2014-Jan. 15, 2015. Directional signage will be in place for vehicular traffic. Also, Old Magnolia Drive from Bryant Drive to Eighth Street will be closed Dec. 15-17 for a tie-in installation for a new storm sewer. Magnolia Drive that runs south of Rose Administration Building and the President’s Mansion will be open to traffic.

UA now offers Microsoft Office for free to currently enrolled students and employed faculty and staff. Details are available at http://bit.ly/officeatua.

EVENTS

UA will hold winter commencement Saturday, Dec. 13, at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. The morning ceremony will award diplomas to graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of Human Environmental Sciences and Capstone College of Nursing. The afternoon ceremony will award diplomas to graduates of the College of Commerce and Business Administration, College of Communication and Information Sciences, College of Engineering, School of Social Work and School of Law. The ceremonies will be available for viewing through live feed at http://www.ua.edu/commencement. The site will be updated for each ceremony. The University of Alabama Student Government Association is hosting a winter clothing drive through Jan. 16, 2015, to benefit the Salvation Army. Donations can be delivered to the SGA office in 2617 Ferguson Center. More information: Katrina Swarthout at info@sga.ua.edu.

The University of Alabama Press will host its annual holiday book sale Dec. 12-14 in its offices on the second floor of the McMillian Building at 200 Hackberry Lane. Sale hours are as follows: Dec. 12, 2โ€“7 p.m.; Dec. 13, 9 a.m.โ€“5 p.m.; and Dec. 14, 2โ€“5 p.m. On Dec. 13 at 2 p.m., local author Jennifer Horne, an Honors College instructor, will read from her new debut collection of short fiction, “Tell the World You’re a Wildflower.” More information: Courtney Blanchard at ceblanchard@uapress.us.edu or 348-5181.

Logistics and Support Services will sponsor the second annual UA Recycling Day on Saturday, Dec. 13. The event is free and open to all faculty, staff and students. Items can be dropped off from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Ancillary Services Building located at 1115 14th St. UA personnel will be available to assist with collection. Accepted items include paper and cardboard, aluminum, plastics, scrap metal, ink and toner cartridges, and computers and electronics. No televisions will be accepted. The University Supply Store is holding its annual holiday sale through Dec. 19 at all store locations. Current UA faculty, staff and students will receive 30 percent off Bama apparel and souvenirs, 20 percent off in-stock general-interest books and an additional 50 percent off clearance merchandise. STUDENT AFFAIRS

Dewpoint is accepting submissions for its fifth volume. All genres of poetry and prose are accepted. The submission deadline is Dec. 15. Dewpoint is the literary journal produced by UA’s Phi Xi chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society.
