ANNOUNCEMENTS

UA now offers Microsoft Office for free to currently enrolled students and employed faculty and staff. Details are available at http://bit.ly/officeatua.

UA encourages all students and employees who are traveling out of the country during the holidays to be mindful of health and safety issues that may be a factor in the countries they plan to visit. In a proactive step to help protect the well-being of UA’s campus community, the University has restricted all University-related travel to the West African countries of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Mali until further notice. Any faculty, staff or students planning to travel on their own to Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone or Mali should contact the Office of the Provost (205-348-4892) prior to their departure. For additional information and requirements associated with travel to these four countries, visit http://provost.ua.edu.

As part of ensuring the health and well-being of UA students, faculty, staff and visitors, The University of Alabama will become smoke-free effective Jan. 1, 2015. Smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes, will be prohibited in all facilities, grounds and parking areas on the UA campus. Read here for more information that includes resources UA will provide to support the University community as the policy takes effect.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

The potential for stress and anxiety always accompanies the end of semester and holidays. The UA Counseling Center has many resources available to help students through these and other trying times. Visit the Counseling Center at 1000 South Lawn Office Building (1101 Jackson Ave.) or call the center at 348-3863. More information: http://counseling.ua.edu/index.cfm.

The second annual UA Leadership, Education, Action and Diversity Summit will be held Feb. 28, 2015. Proposals are due Dec. 5 and can be found at http://leadership.ua.edu/conference.cfm.

Dewpoint is accepting submissions for its fifth volume. All genres of poetry and prose are accepted. The submission deadline is Dec. 15. ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Gorgas and Rodgers libraries will operate 24/7 Nov. 30-Dec. 12. For a complete list of library locations and hours, visit http://www.lib.ua.edu/hours.

The deadline to submit Student Opinions of Instruction course-evaluation surveys for Fall Semester 2014 is Dec. 7. SOI allows students to confidentially rate their UA learning experiences and encourages feedback about their courses and instructors. Students can select either the standard or the mobile view of SOI. The mobile feature makes the surveys easy to navigate using smartphones or other mobile devices. The mobile feature functions well with newer Android, iOS and Windows mobile devices. Confidential reports of survey results are provided to UA faculty and administrators after all grades are submitted. Student ratings are important in helping instructors improve their teaching and in helping the University evaluate courses and faculty. Visit the SOI website at http://oira.ua.edu/soi/soi_info.html for more information or send an email to soi@ua.edu. SOI is on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/UAstudentopinions.
