TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Gary Moynihan, professor of industrial engineering at The University of Alabama, recently received the 2006 Institute of Industrial Engineers’ National Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award.
Each year, the Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award recognizes one outstanding chapter adviser from each of IIE’s regions for their motivation, success and special work achievement. Moynihan received IIE’s Region Three Advisor Award in February and was nominated for the national award.
Moynihan received the award at the IIE Annual Conference and Exposition Honors and Awards Banquet held in Nashville, Tenn.
According to the award letter, the national award was created to recognize the dedicated efforts of one student chapter adviser who has exemplified above all others IIE’s commitment to education, personal, profession and technical development of students. As a faculty adviser to UA’s IIE student chapter, Moynihan has demonstrated long-standing commitment to the chapter and its students’ creative activities.
Founded in 1948, IIE is an international, non-profit association that provides leadership for the application, education, training, research and development of industrial engineering.
In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s fully accredited College of Engineering has about 1,900 students and nearly 100 faculty. In the last seven years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater scholars, Hollings scholars and Portz scholars.
