UA Mass Communication Programs Re-Accredited by ACEJMC

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama College of Communication and Information Sciences advertising and public relations, journalism, and telecommunication and film degree programs have been re-accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

The accrediting council, known as ACEJMC, is the agency responsible for the evaluation of professional journalism and mass communications programs in colleges and universities.

“I’m very proud that these programs have been re-accredited by ACEJMC,” said Dr. Loy Singleton, dean of the College. “This re-accreditation is a testament to the high caliber teaching, research and learning that takes place in this College and indicative of our fine faculty, staff, alumni and students.”

The accreditation process involved a self study, compiled by Dr. Caryl Cooper with the help of Dr. Bruce Berger, Dr. Gary Copeland and Dr. Jennifer Greer, advertising and public relations, telecommunication and film and journalism department chairs, respectively, and an on-site visit by industry professionals and academic peers.

ACEJMC establishes educational requirements and standards and provides a process of voluntary program review by professionals and academicians, awarding accredited status to units that meet its standards, assuring that accredited programs meet rigorous standards for professional education.
