UA will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 21. Crimson Ride and 348-Ride services will not operate on that day. Crimson Ride service will resume at 7 a.m. on Jan. 22, and the 348-Ride service will resume at 10 p.m. on Jan. 21.
As 2013 begins, The University of Alabama begins a new tradition: the playing of the alma mater each day at noon. At the suggestion of a student, the Denny Chimes will ring out the tune that was written in 1908 by Helen Vickers. The familiar tune is dear to many UA students and alumni. EVENTS
The Alabama football team will be honored for its second straight national championship with a parade Saturday, Jan. 19. The event will feature Nick Saban, head coach; the players and staff; Mal Moore, director of athletics; and other dignitaries and special guests. The parade will start at 1:30 p.m. at the corner of University Boulevard and Second Avenue. It will conclude with the Walk of Champions and a ceremony outside of Bryant-Denny Stadium on the top steps of the north end zone. Eli Gold, the voice of Alabama football, will emcee the ceremony.
The 24th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Realizing the Dream Concert will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Moody Music Building. Take 6 and the Aeolians from Oakwood University will perform.
The SOURCE and the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership present “Get on Board: Trio Edition,” a three day Get on Board event. Organizations will be split up into types with the following schedule:

A law-school fair will be held Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the ballroom on the third floor of the Ferguson Center. Representatives from law schools across the country will speak with students about their law schools, provide advice and information, and answer any questions. Attire is business or business-casual. Students can learn how to use library resources for career exploration and preparation by attending a free workshop Jan. 30 from noon to 1 p.m. in 109 Gorgas Library. Participants will discover, access and navigate library and government resources designed specifically to aid in career exploration, job searching and interview preparation. Auditions for Mental Health Monologues will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16, 4-5 p.m. or by appointment, in 141 Rowand-Johnson Hall. Participants should come prepared with a one-minute monologue, but sides will be available. Males and females chosen to be part of the 8-to-10-member cast must be willing to learn their monologues quickly, meet with an artistic director one to two times and be available to perform on the evening of Feb. 8. Mental Health Monologues, presented by NAMI-UA and the Counseling Center, is a project that collects anonymous essay submissions from students on campus about their personal struggles with mental illness. The submissions are then used as monologues performed by actors during a staged performance. More information: Abby Jones at ajones107@crimson.ua.edu.

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
The offices for the departments of American studies and anthropology have moved to the old Capstone Medical Center for the Spring Semester 2013 due to renovations in ten Hoor Hall. The American studies main office is temporarily located in Room 236 of the CMC and the anthropology main office is temporarily located in Room 323. The Capstone Medical Center is located at 700 University Blvd. E. between the Stallings Center (RISE program) and the School of Nursing on the eastern edge of campus near McFarland Boulevard. The SGA Student Elections Board will host an information session about the upcoming Student Government Association elections today at 6:30 p.m. in the Anderson Room at 302 Ferguson Center. The brief meeting will discuss new campaign guidelines and the election timeline. The meeting is not mandatory for potential candidates. Entry forms for the 77th annual Miss Corolla Pageant are due today by 5 p.m. at the Office of Student Media located next to the Walk of Champions in front of Bryant-Denny Stadium. The form and $125 entry fee can also be turned in at an interest meeting that will be held today at 7 p.m. in 301 Ferguson Center. Applications for Peer Leaders are due Jan. 28. UA Peer Leaders partner with faculty members to serve as role models and mentors for first-year students and also contribute to the instruction of courses for those students. The courses are designed to support new students as they transition to UA. Peer Leaders participate in training in Spring Semester 2013 and serve in their roles for Fall Semester 2013, while also participating in a fall forum that can be taken for course credit. CIMG is a student-managed investment fund that provides members with hands-on investment experience and a competitive edge when entering the professional world. The Al’s Pals program is seeking UA students to volunteer as mentors to local at-risk children in first through fifth grades. Mentors would work with students at Oakdale Elementary School and the McKenzie Court Community Service Center from 2:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. each Wednesday or Thursday. Homegrown Alabama is currently filling several positions and is seeking interested students to help plan and run the market. Homegrown Alabama is a student-run, on-campus farmers market held each year from April through October. Positions are suitable for students who are interested in local food, small business, nonprofits, event planning, public relations, marketing, arts and crafts, and local music. Available positions include assistant market manager, kids’ crafts coordinator, craft-vendor coordinator, talent booking and other leadership positions.
