TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama College of Education’s program for gifted and talented in special education is offering its 35th annual Summer Enrichment Workshop June 11-29 at Matthews Elementary School weekdays from 8-11:45 a.m.
A wide variety of topics and activities of interest to bright, school-age students will be covered, including art, technology, archaeology, drama, Egyptology and inventions. Students in SEW 2012 will attend two daily sessions lasting one hour and 45 minutes each with a refreshment break between sessions.
Instructors will include graduate interns working toward a master’s degree and A-certification in gifted education, many already teaching in the gifted programs of schools statewide. They will be assisted by undergraduate Multiple Abilities Program students who are working toward B-certification in special education and general education.
Applications for enrollment are being accepted through May 14. Children who have completed K-8th grade and are enrolled in gifted programs are eligible, with consideration for other qualified students as space permits.
SEW provides outstanding experiences for both students and the interns in small, personalized classes that extend and enrich the learning of gifted students while promoting interaction with other highly able young people.
