Winter commencement ceremonies
Tuscaloosa News – Dec. 16
The University of Alabama will hold its winter commencement ceremonies in Coleman Coliseum on the UA campus. University-wide commencement ceremonies will be held at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to award degrees. At the 9 a.m. ceremony, the colleges of Commerce and Business Administration, Communication and Information Sciences, Engineering and Nursing will award their degrees. At 2 p.m., degrees will be conferred in the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Education, Human Environmental Sciences and the School of Social Work. Doctoral recipients, education specialists and master’s degree candidates participate with their respective divisions. The Dec.17 ceremonies will be broadcast live on the Internet. The webcast will be archived on UA’s Web site,www.ua.edu/commencement, and it will be available for viewing through February 2012.

UA recycling center serving as drop-off before, after Christmas
AL.com – Dec. 16
The University of Alabama recycling center will serve as a place for community members to drop recyclables before and after Christmas, according to the administration. Located at 1115 14th St., UA’s Ancillary Services Building will accept recyclables from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Dec. 22-23 and from 8 a.m. until noon on Dec. 24. It will be closed Christmas and will re-open Dec. 26 and be open through Dec. 30 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

$4.6M journalism partnership launched between Mercer, Telegraph, GPB

The Center for Collaborative Journalism at Mercer University will bring together the university’s students and faculty with professionals from The Telegraph and Georgia Public Broadcasting. The effort is backed by a $3.74 million grant to Mercer, along with another $854,000 grant to Georgia Public Broadcasting, all from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation…The Miami Herald has partnered for a number of years with a public radio station, and The Anniston Star is working closely with the University of Alabama’s journalism program.
