UA will hold tornado remembrance vigil

The University of Alabama is inviting staff, and students, to a “tornado remembrance vigil” this Sunday. The UA community will remember the impact of the April 27th storms, and give awards to people who stepped up to help.
Zoe’s Kitchen honors memory of UA graduate Zoe Bromberg with donations to Rise Program

Zoe’s Kitchen is honoring the granddaughter of founders Marcus and Zoe Cassimus by reaching out to help the Rise Program at the University of Alabama. From Sept. 1 to 15, Zoe’s locations in Alabama and Florida will donate $5 from every Dinner for Four sold to the Rise Program in memory of Zoe Bromberg, a 23-year-old UA graduate who was affectionately known as “Little Zoe.” Bromberg died in an accident on July 12 while she was visiting a friend in Spain. The Rise Program is the favorite charity of her Kappa Delta sorority…Founded in 1974, the Rise Program serves children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities.
Sister Cities delegates gather in Tuscaloosa to mark friendship

… Charles Nash, vice chancellor for academic and student affairs at the University of Alabama, is hosting Quasi Abbabio, the mayor of Sunyani, Ghana. Nash said he’s been pleased with the program since it began in 1986. He’s particularly happy about the most recent addition. “The first two sister cities had a lot to do with business and economic relations, which is important, but this relationship with Ghana is our first that is purely cultural,” he said. Culture is something you can only learn from interacting with other people, Nash said. “It’s most important for children, because their world is going to be even more connected than ours. They’re going to need to understand these different cultures,” he said, adding that he hopes Tuscaloosa will consider adding a sister city in Latin America. … Delegates were given a tour of Tuscaloosa on Thursday that included such highlights as Bryant-Denny Stadium and the recently erected Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, Keyes said… PHOTO: University of Alabama athletics assistant Lindsey Norris talks to representatives from Tuscaloosa’s sister cities at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Thursday.
