Impact Alabama’s FocusFirst makes more than 32,000 vision screenings during the 2010-11 school year

The nonprofit group Impact Alabama is celebrating a record year, having performed more than 32,000 vision screens for state children during the recently ended school year. The program, now in its seventh year, in 2010 set a goal of 30,000 vision screenings for the school year, said Impact Alabama president Stephen Black, who is also director of UA’s Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility…

Library names 2011 Faculty and Staff Award winners

The Library Leadership Board has named Beth Holley and Wayne Rau as its 2011 Faculty and Staff Award recipients. “The Library Leadership Board Awards were created to recognize, on an annual basis, a library faculty member for truly outstanding professional contributions to University Libraries or to the field of librarianship,” Donna Adcock, of UA Libraries, said. “And to recognize the exceptional library staff member whose competence, attitude and helpfulness advances the mission of University Libraries.”…Beth Holley, head of Acquisitions for Gorgas Libraries, received the Faculty Award, and Wayne Rau, digital media specialist for Stanford Media Center, was named as Staff Award recipient…
