TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Melondie Carter, associate professor of nursing at The University of Alabama, has been appointed as the assistant director of UA’s Office of Health Promotion and Wellness.
Carter’s appointment came as a result of her ongoing support of the Health Promotion and Wellness team, her expertise in the area of worksite health promotion, her knowledge of community health and wellness, as well as her coordination with the nursing students and members of the Capstone College of Nursing faculty.
“Dr. Carter’s intimate knowledge of nursing, health promotion and wellness will serve her well as we seek to ensure an environment that fosters the health and well-being of our employees and their family members,” said Rebecca Kelly, director of the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness. “A key to our future will be her ability to complete a research agenda and foster collaborative interdisciplinary research among our faculty,” said Kelly.
Carter received a bachelor’s from the Troy State University in 1977. She earned her master’s in Adult Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1983 and her doctorate in Community Mental Health with a functional role of Nursing Service Administration in 1998.
Carter’s research interests include decision support for nursing and the effectiveness of wellness programs in small industry. She received both the Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award from the National Alumni Association and The Alabama State Nurses’ Associations Outstanding Nurse Educator/Academe Award in 2000.
