UA takes ninth place in supply chain game

A University of Alabama team of graduate business school students took ninth place in a recent international online supply chain management competition. A total of 105 teams from 46 colleges and universities worldwide competed in the Avnet Tech Games RedPrairie Supply Chain Challenge. Most of the teams came from American colleges and universities, but teams from universities in Europe, Asia and Latin America also participated. The UA team comprised four international students — Zhi Wong and Rong Li of China and Abhay Lidbe of India, all of whom are working on Ph.Ds, and Ibrahim Capar of Turkey, who is working on an MBA. Burcu B. Keskin, an assistant professor of operations management at UA, said the students had 48 hours to complete the online simulated challenge that started on Feb. 11…

Gas prices a hot topic at BBJ Energy Panel

…Oil prices have fluctuated higher recently due to turmoil in the Middle East, Peter Clark, associate professor of chemical and biological engineering at the University of Alabama said. He said a nationwide recession depressed gas prices for consumers. “The recession cut demand for gasoline, and the price of oil dropped,” he said. “We got used to cheaper oil and gasoline. Demand is now coming back, and when you couple that with troubles in the Middle East, prices will be volatile for the near future.”
