Chronicle of Higher Education – Nov. 4 (Subscription required)

Opinion: UA fans can revel in No. 1 ranking
Tuscaloosa News – Nov. 4

It’s been a long time coming — the last time Alabama ranked atop the AP poll during the regular season was in 1980, when Jimmy Carter was president — and it sure feels good.
Enjoy it while it lasts…Even if Alabama manages to win all three of its remaining regular season games, most commentators already have the Florida Gators matched against Penn State for the BCS championship. Forgive us if we hear an echo in those predictions of the experts’ dismissal of the 1992 Alabama team that walloped vaunted Miami in the Sugar Bowl. It may not happen again. But nothing can defeat the Alabama Nation’s optimism for a team that already has exceeded almost everyone’s expectations. This is a week to savor.
