My Ticket system considered a success

Saturday’s football game against Tulane allowed students to get a first look at the ticketless system for the student section, and so far it seems the reviews are in the program’s favor. SGA President Cason Kirby said he has not heard a single complaint in regards to the new system. “It’s just plain easier,” Kirby said. “You don’t have to worry about keeping up with a ticket.”…

Parties jockey to guide flood of data about Palin

…Jennifer Greer, a University of Alabama professor, said that at a freshman seminar on media and politics, “there was almost a screaming match back and forth” as students argued about what they had heard about Palin, information mostly gleaned from blogs, chatrooms, and social networking sites on the Internet. “I haven’t seen anything like it,” said Greer, who chairs the journalism department. “They give a lot of weight to what they read on the Internet, and I’m trying to teach them to look at the source and ask themselves why they trust that source.”…

A non-traditional fair at a school of traditions

…Because of the challenges they faced before coming to college, the Graduate Student Association is hosting a fair for these non-traditional students on Sept. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second floor of the Ferguson Center. Different organizations on campus, such as the Women’s Resource Center, Graduate Housing, the Counseling Center, the Student Health Center and many others, will have tables set up at the event. Organizations from around Tuscaloosa, including the County Health Department, the Chamber of Commerce and several churches, will also have tables. The event is in the evening, so the need for babysitters is lowered for those with children. Face painting is also available for the children that attend…

Buddhist priest to visit UA campus

Poet and Zen Buddhist priest Norman Fischer will be at the University of Alabama today for discussions about Buddhism and a morning meditation session. Fischer will talk about his most recent book, ‘Sailing Home: Using the Wisdom of Homer’s Odyssey to Navigate Life’s Pitfalls and Perils.’ The meditation session begins at 9 a.m. today at the Riverside Dormitory Community Center. At noon, Fischer will speak at a brown-bag luncheon and hold a discussion about Buddhism at 301 Morgan Hall. At 3:30 p.m., Fischer will be at the Crossroads Community Center in the Ferguson Center.
