Bama dining ditches trays to save energy

…The University decided to go “trayless” last spring and had most Bama Bound students experiencing the new system over the summer. “This is in no way something we want to do to disrupt service or upset customers. It’s a much bigger picture than that. I think the benefit outweighs the inconveniences,” said Kristina Hopton-Jones, the food service contract administrator for Bama Dining. The benefit Hopton-Jones speaks about includes not only environmental positives, but also money saving for the University. “Honestly, there are so many benefits,” Hopton-Jones said. “Each tray requires a gallon of water to wash. We’ve seen a decreased amount of waste by 25 percent this summer.” According to a press release from Bama Dining and the SGA, the University will be saving nearly 552,000 gallons of water a year, along with 270,000 fewer pounds of waste…
Career Center helps seniors job-hunt

…Jerry Paschal, executive director of the Career Center, said students should think about their future job before senior year rolls around. Paschal recommends that students create a Crimson Career account on the career center Web site in order to access such programs as CareerBeam… The Career Center provides services that include help with students’ résumés, career consultation and interview coaching. For example, the Career Center can help seniors customize their résumé for the language that is in the job description. The Career Center also recommends appropriate clothing for interviews and answers questions about legal and ethical issues related to interviews…Dr. Gary Hoover, assistant dean for faculty and graduate student development for Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration , agreed that research is an important part of the job process for seniors. “Another important thing that can be done right now is research on companies and what the culture is like,” Hoover said…
