Snead, UA partner for nurses

…Snead State Community College and the University of Alabama have created a partnership allowing her and students like her to take nursing classes online…Sara Barger, dean of the Capstone College of Nursing, and Jeanette VandeMeer, RN mobility coordinator, were on hand Wednesday afternoon with Robert Exley, Snead State president, and other Snead State officials to formally sign the agreement. Under the pact, registered nurses will be able to seek a bachelor’s degree online in one year without facing restrictions of being in class at a certain time. The concept thrills Bridges…Barger looked to similarities between Snead State and Alabama. “We both have such rich traditions,” she said. “We’re the oldest university in the state, and Snead State is the oldest community college in the state. We all appreciate the past but are also willing and eager to move into the future together.” VanderMeer said the pact with Snead State is one of 11 within the state between community college and Alabama. “We designed this around the working nurse. She has a family, she has a job and she wants to get a degree. She may not have the time to drive here and there to get classes and clinicals,” VanderMeer said…
