Reinhardt Toyota in wait-and-see mode
Montgomery Advertiser – Jan. 28
…Jim Cashman, a professor of management at the University of Alabama who follows the auto industry, said Toyota’s move was the only one it could make under the circumstances. “They have to get this fixed,” he said of the problem with gas pedals malfunctioning. “It is a very courageous move from the outsider point of view.” Cashman said Toyota must protect its reputation for quality, even if that means halting sales of popular models for several days. Consumers will return, he predicted, if Toyota can convince them the problem has been corrected. However, he said if the sales suspension drags on for much longer than a week, or if Toyota doesn’t fix it right this time, the car company could be in for an extended rough stretch.”It doesn’t just have to be fast, it also has to be right,” he said.
