TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The 2001 University of Alabama homecoming court was selected Tuesday, Oct. 30, in a general student election using Internet voting for the first time at UA.
The following students were chosen to be members of the homecoming court: Bridgette Fisher of Nashville, Tenn., Charel R. Hebert of Hoover, Carrie E. Patterson of Lexington, Ky., Andree Pickens of Houston, and Hill Ringland of Birmingham (35223).
The homecoming queen will be announced Friday, Nov. 2, at the UA pep rally beginning at 7 p.m. UA President Andrew Sorensen is scheduled to crown the queen during halftime of the homecoming football game between Alabama and Louisiana State University on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 2:30 p.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
UA students voted on the queen and her court from a selection of 21 candidates. Some 4,500 students voted in the election – an increase of almost 50 percent from last year, noted Carl Bacon of the UA Office of the Dean of Students. Bacon attributed the increase in student participation to the ease of Internet voting.
