TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A group of University of Alabama athletes is holding an event to help out Tuscaloosa residents and to raise funds for their program.
“Rent-A-Rower,” a fund raiser for Alabama Crew Club, will take place on Nov. 17-18. Crew members will rent themselves out to work for Tuscaloosa residents. The hard working men and women will be available to perform chores such as raking leaves, landscaping, cleaning gutters or moving furniture.
The cost of “Rent-A-Rower” is $100 per day, per rower.
Upon completion of the chore, the rowers will collect a check made payable to Alabama Crew from their employers for the day. Clients must provide all materials, tools and supplies. There will be no rain dates for the event.
To rent a rower, call or e-mail Maggi Kelly at 205/348-0307, uacrew@hotmail.com.
The Alabama Crew Club is the rowing team for UA. They depend on fund raising efforts like “Rent-A-Rower” to help buy expensive equipment and to pay travel expenses to compete throughout the Southeast. The club has more than 40 student athletes who train year-round to represent Alabama in the oldest collegiate sport, rowing. During the last two years, members of the club have been finalists in two national championship regattas.
