Athletic Trainer Scholarship Awarded to UA Student

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society has awarded University of Alabama student Gabriel Andres Perlaza a $1,000 Ethnic Minority Scholarship for the 2003-2004 academic year.

The society, which is part of the National Athletic Trainers Association, has invited Perlaza to complete an athletic training internship with the Cleveland Browns football club during July and August as part of the award.

Perlaza is studying athletic training in the UA College of Human Environmental Sciences. A native of Cali, Colombia, Perlaza is director of the UA Rotary International Student House and co-president of the UA Athletic Trainers Students Association. He is the son of Valesca Lopez of Yucaipa, Calif.

The UA College of Human Environmental Sciences was established in 1917. The College is well known for is comprehensive approach to higher education. Students seeking degrees in professional service industries are well served by its academic programs, classroom instruction, real-world experience and mentoring by seasoned faculty.
