Literary Magazine at UA Named National Finalist for Pacemaker Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Marr’s Field Journal, The University of Alabama student literary and arts magazine, is one of six national finalists for a prestigious Pacemaker Award.

Marr’s Field Journal – with editor Leah Blake and UA adviser Paul Wright – offers a variety of different works from undergraduate students at UA. The annual journal is composed of fiction and nonfiction works of literature, poetry and a CD for other forms of art such as music.

The Pacemaker Awards honor general excellence in collegiate magazines and are divided into the two categories of feature and literary magazines. This year, the literary category, in which the Marr’s Field Journal competes, was judged by the American Poetry Journal.

The Pacemaker Awards will be presented at the 2009 National College Media Convention in Austin, Texas, on Oct. 31. The awards will be presented by the Associated Collegiate Press and are considered to be student journalism’s highest national honor.

Each entry was judged based on content, quality of writing and editing, photography, art and graphics, layout and design and overall concept and theme.
