With construction completed, Capstone Learning Academy, The University of Alabama’s new early child development center, will welcome University employee and student families at four open house events in July.
“We are thrilled to welcome families to our new center,” said Samantha Patton, center director. “Our team is working diligently to create a nurturing and stimulating environment where young children can thrive. We look forward to building strong relationships with UA families and supporting the early education of our future legends.”
During an open house, families can tour the center, located at 1300 21st St. E. in Tuscaloosa, meet the qualified and passionate teaching staff, and explore the range of innovative programs and services offered.
Open house dates and times:
- Tuesday, July 16, 2-4 p.m.
- Tuesday, July 23, 2-4 p.m. and 4-6 p.m.

Capstone Learning Academy is designed to meet the learning and developmental needs of children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. KinderCare, which has more than 50 years of experience providing high-quality early childhood care, will operate the program. In addition to KinderCare’s research-based early childhood education curriculum, Capstone Learning Academy tuition includes breakfast, lunch and snacks for all children except infants and access to fun indoor and large covered outdoor playgrounds.
“The UA community’s response has been tremendous. Our infant classrooms have reached capacity, but we still have seats for toddlers and pre-K children,” said Cheryl Mowdy, UA’s interim vice president for finance and operations.
Faculty, staff and students enrolled in a minimum of 12 undergraduate hours, or nine graduate hours, have priority for enrolling their child or children.
