Capstone Agency, a student-led communications firm at The University of Alabama, provided creative communications solutions for nine local nonprofits during its annual CreateAthon Feb. 16-17.
During the 24-hour event, more than 60 UA students and faculty produced strategic communications work for Theresa Burroughs Residential Living Inc., Schoolyard Roots, Five Horizons Health Services, Success by 6, Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama, Freshwater Land Trust, Tuscaloosa SAFE Center and Riverchase Day School.
The work of this year’s CreateAthon is valued to be at $44,245.
Chloe Petro, Capstone Agency’s pro bono director, led the agency through this year’s CreateAthon and shared her excitement for returning this impactful event to Reese Phifer Hall on the UA campus.
“I love seeing the skills of our talented Capstone Agency associates being used during CreateAthon to give back to the community,” Petro said. “This year we stuck with the theme ‘Create for Good’ to reflect just that.”
Along with Capstone Agency associates, Petro invited students from UA’s chapter of the Public Relations Council of Alabama to participate in the event.
“We were so excited to have the opportunity to work with PRCA,” Petro said. “We love working with other public relations organizations on campus, especially for the sake of giving back to the community.”
The Capstone Agency has provided more than $393,180 worth of pro bono strategic communications to local nonprofits since CreateAthon’s inception.
“Being able to do this work before we graduate is something that not only builds confidence, but also builds our skills and allows us to learn things that give us a leg up that other students wouldn’t have before going into the industry,” said Adam Philippe, Capstone Agency president.
