3 UA STUDENTS EARN HOLLINGS UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS — University of Alabama students Sydney Aldrich, of Helena; Aurora Baker, of St. Louis; and Kylie Overton, of Brentwood, Tennessee, are the recipients of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship. The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance up to $9,500 per year for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid internship at a NOAA facility during the summer. UA PLANS UNIVERSITY CLUB RENOVATIONS AND RE-OPENING — UA is renovating and planning to re-open the University Club in partnership with Invited, the nation’s largest owner and operator of private membership clubs, in May 2024. Located in a historic property on Queen City Avenue, the University Club is within walking distance of the campus and Bryant-Denny Stadium. Its continued operation will support the University’s mission and the campus community by providing an immersive learning experience for UA students as well as a premier dining and social establishment for faculty, staff, alumni and visitors. UA WELCOMES RURAL PRE-MEDICAL STUDENTS FOR TRAINING — The UA College of Community Health Sciences recently welcomed the second class of the Tuscaloosa Rural Pre-Medical Internship, a program for college students in pre-medical studies who are interested in rural primary care practice. In the seven-week summer program, students learn about the health needs of rural Alabama residents, particularly in the fields of family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics. Participants also gain a better understanding of the day-to-day life of family medicine doctors. In addition, the program seeks to enhance students’ understanding of medical school and increase their competitiveness for medical school admission. PALEONTOLOGY SHOW AND TELL — The Alabama Museum of Natural History is hosting Paleontology Show and Tell June 22 from 10 to 11 a.m. Discover the wonders of what paleontology is and what types of tools are used to uncover different types of fossils. Participants in grades 1-3 will have a show and tell experience with real life fossils and equipment and can dress up as a paleontologist. This program is free with paid museum admission. 

AFTER PROMONTORY: PHOTOS, MYTHS AND RAILROADS IN THE AMERICAN WEST — The Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum will host a free presentation titled “After Promontory: Photos, Myths, & Railroads in the American West” June 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. Led by Scott Lothes, director of the Center for Railroad Photography & Art, and Dr. Alexander Craghead of UC Berkley, the presentation is in conjunction with the Warner Transportation Museum’s summer exhibit “After Promontory: 150 Years of Transcontinental Railroading.” After Promontory takes a wide view of an entire era of transcontinental railroad construction that stretched for nearly 50 years. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is required.
