TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Cody Moore, a University of Alabama senior majoring in civil engineering, was recently selected to attend the Associated Builders and Contractors Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., June 17-19.
As the ABC Region Four student representative, Moore is one of only five individuals from more than 1,000 student members nationwide selected to attend this event. Moore was the state’s only student selected.
Students selected for the ABC Legislative Conference will build relationships with ABC members and board representatives, develop a better understanding of the legislative and regulatory process and how it affects the construction industry, and gain exposure to the critical issues directly impacting construction today.
Moore, vice president of membership and treasurer of UA’s student chapter of ABC, was selected because he takes initiative, displays outstanding leadership skills and demonstrates active involvement with UA’s ABC chapter. He has participated in the last two ABC National Conferences.
A resident of Northport, Moore has participated in co-op education with HOAR Construction. He expects to graduate in December.
Since UA’s ABC chapter was established in 2005, two UA civil engineering students have been selected to attend this conference
Associated Builders and Contractors is a national association representing nearly 25,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in 78 chapters across the United States. ABC’s membership represents all specialties within the U.S. construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms that perform work in the industrial and commercial sectors of the industry.
In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s fully accredited College of Engineering has more than 2,300 students and over 100 faculty. In the last seven years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater scholars, Hollings scholars and Portz scholars.
