Build a Kit to be Prepared

September is National Preparedness Month, a time set aside each year to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies.

Throughout the month, The University of Alabama will share tips to help you prepare.

After a disaster, you may find yourself without electricity, running water or food for a few days. Prepare now by building an emergency supply kit.

Here are a few items your kit should include:

  • Water
  • Food
  • Flashlight
  • First aid kit
  • Cell phone with chargers and backup battery
  • Masks or face coverings
  • Medications

Read about other items you can include in your emergency supply kit.

After you’ve built your kit, make sure to check and update it at least once a year so it’s ready when a disaster strikes.
