Hudson became the first African American scholarship athlete at UA in 1969.
Hudson remains one of the most decorated student-athletes in Crimson Tide men’s basketball history.
As a senior, Hudson was UA’s first SEC Player of the Year in men’s basketball, leading the league in scoring.
Hudson helped secure UA’s first postseason appearance in program history, advancing to the semifinals of the NIT.
A men’s basketball scholarship has been endowed in Hudson’s honor and student-athletes will wear a WH patch for the remainder of the winter and spring sport seasons.
Hudson was honored during halftime of the Crimson Tide’s victory over LSU Feb. 15.
While Hudson’s No. 20 will remain in circulation, his jersey is the first in UA Athletics’ history to be retired.
