University of Alabama, Stillman begin classes Wednesday

Motorists driving to work Wednesday morning might want to plan on leaving a little early. Wednesday marks the first day of classes for the University of Alabama and Stillman College, so traffic is bound to be heavier, especially in the morning. This will mark the first day that all of the Tuscaloosa area schools have been in session since late May.

The Alabama State Port Authority is one of the largest economic engines for the state and wants to build on its $22.4 billion economic impact. The 4,000 acres that make up the state docks have multiple complexes that handle everything from auto parts to coal and from poultry to pine …According to an economic impact study from the University of Alabama’s Center for Business and Economic Research, the port is responsible for 134,608 direct and indirect jobs in the state with a direct and indirect tax impact of $486.9 million.

After a long and hot week, sorority recruitment came to a close as almost 2,000 new sorority members began the traditional humid run from Bryant-Denny Stadium to their new Greek houses to be welcomed by their sisters, friends and family on Sunday afternoon.
Lakeside Dining renovations complete

After finishing renovation during the summer, the updated Lakeside Dining Hall will be ready for the fall semester. Kristina Patridge, director of University Dining Services, said the renovation costs added up to seven million dollars. The new dining hall will include additions such as equipment, new infrastructure and dietary accommodations.
Metal detectors to increase security at Bryant-Denny Stadium

In an attempt to further improve game day security, University of Alabama students and fans will walk through metal detectors at all gates upon entry of Bryant-Denny Stadium this football season.
New Action Card updates now in effect

Throughout summer, the Action Card office retooled the University’s Action Card and modified how it serves the student body by increasing student ID security, adding the ability to function with the Apple Wallet app and implementing near-field communication (NFC) technology as well as a change in design.
