
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Adam Rankin of Bristol, Tenn., has been selected as a 2005 McNair Scholar at The University of Alabama.
Under the guidance of faculty mentor Dr. John Petrovic, UA assistant professor of educational leadership, policy and technology studies, Rankin is conducting research on elementary students who are non-native English speakers. His research, conducted in English-speaking classrooms, analyzes the ways students use their first language in all-English learning environments.
The McNair Scholars Program is a prestigious scholarship and research program that helps prepare accomplished undergraduates for graduate study. A U.S. Department of Education TRIO program, McNair Scholars serves first-generation college students and students from other groups underrepresented in doctoral study
