The University of Alabama continues to make strides in providing elite facilities and amenities to students, faculty and staff, evident through several construction and renovation projects reaching completion just in time for the new academic year.
Here’s a brief overview of a few projects at or near completion.
Psychology Building

The department of psychology has a new home following a major renovation and addition to what was formerly known as Searcy Hall along Peter Bryce Boulevard. Renovations included the installation of a large lecture hall, classrooms, labs and office space to support the psychology department’s relocation from Gordon Palmer Hall.
Additional improvements called for an elevator, all new mechanical, plumbing, electrical and life safety systems, and all UA standard enterprise systems such as networking, access control and security, and audio-visual technology.
Colonial Drive and University Boulevard Infrastructure and Enhancements

For those who remained on campus or visited over the summer, campus infrastructure improvements were noticeable near the Quad with the closure of sections of University Boulevard and Colonial Drive. The project included rerouting a sanitary sewer, new thermal piping routed to Reese Phifer Hall and connection to the Central Thermal System, replacement of critical water lines, and extension of UA natural gas, among other improvements.
Above ground enhancements are new roadway paving, road markings, landscaping, bike path, lighting and security.
Capital Hall Renovation and Addition

Capital Hall on the Peter Bryce Campus was renovated to allow for the relocation of the department of theatre and dance costume shop from Rowand-Johnson Hall. The renovation and new space include costume classroom laboratory shop spaces, offices, fitting rooms, storage space, and necessary support spaces.
The new location for the costume shop was strategically placed near the Smith Family Center for the Performing Arts, which is scheduled for completion in November 2026.
Student Recreation Pickleball Court Expansion

Pickleball lovers won’t have to wait as long for an open court as the Student Recreation Center will add eight new courts. The new courts, scheduled to be completed in early fall, will include appropriate lighting, access and security.
