We Are UA ambassador Kristi Acker with nursing students

Give Where You Are: We Are UA Ambassador Kristi Acker

If it’s a gift that’s given to you with love and commitment and the spirit of charity, then it makes all the difference in the world.” — Dr. Kristi Acker

Dr. Kristi Acker is a UA faculty member, alumna, spouse and parent of alumni, and a nursing professional with a passion for service.

That passion fuels her work as a clinical associate professor in the Capstone College of Nursing and role on the Alabama Board of Nursing and Palliative Care State Advisory Council. The desire to help is a family trait. It’s evidenced by the Adams-Acker Endowed Family Caregiver Scholarship, a scholarship for nursing students who care for loved ones or are committed to serving patients with serious illnesses.

This commitment to helping and the sense of campus community inspire her as a We Are UA ambassador. “It is amazing whether in the College of Nursing or Faculty Senate or wherever you are on campus there’s a sense of community and it’s so rewarding,” Acker said.

Spending 25 years in a clinical setting prior to joining the UA faculty, she is also amazed and sensitive to the array of resources available at the Capstone. She wants those resources to continue to multiply. We Are UA is one way to ensure those resources will always be here.

Gifts to the University’s annual faculty and staff giving campaign may be of any size. It is the love and vision and sense of working together for good that motivates the gifts and multiplies their force, she believes.

“I would encourage faculty and staff to remember what it was like to be on the receiving end of help.

“If it’s a gift that’s given to you with love and commitment and the spirit of charity, then it makes all the difference in the world.

“Give where you are. Don’t wait.”
